Transportation of Special Vehicles
Krasnoyarsk krai is distinctive for its harsh climate complicated by the tricky soils and permafrost. This is one of the main reasons why this vast region has no modern transport arteries—asphalt roads.
The only road network are the “winter roads” operable only in winter, in a part of the region north. Only time-and cold proven tested all-wheel drive or caterpillar vehicles can be driven along these challenging northern lines. To ensure readiness of the haulage companies of the Subarctic for the winter season, hundreds of such vehicles are brought annually by the companies’ craft.
Equipment is carried by flat top barges which are unloaded at points of destination by floating cranes with specially designed grabs. A large number of such equipment comes through the Dudinka seaport in the Norilsk industrial region.
